1.
Alternate between narratives and epistles.
We will not read the four Gospels back-to-back. We will spread the Gospels throughout the eight weeks. This means you will spend a week reading about the life of Jesus, and then read a few epistles the next week.
2.
Read in semi-chronological order.
We will read the New Testament in chronological order meaning we will read the earlier writings (e.g. James, Galatians) before the later writings (e.g. John’s Epistles and Revelation).
3.
Read Acts early to provide background to the epistles.
As we tune into God’s words, reading the Book of Acts early will provide historical and cultural background for the New Testament epistles. Luke and Acts will be kept together since they are closely related and both penned by Luke.
4.
Do not divide books or chapters.
We will not read two books simultaneously, nor will we pause midway in one book to start another. For simplicity, we will also not divide chapters. Even though chapter divisions were not a part of the original text, following the chapter divisions seems natural.
5.
Start with Mark’s gospel.
The Gospel of Mark is one of the easiest books in the New Testament to read because its action packed, and it highlights some of the most important events in Jesus’ life.
